Installation Instructions

Double check DBI exists in your server

TurboReferer needs:

  • A UNIX server
  • MySQL database (1 database can be used for multiple installations)
  • Perl and DBI module
  • Sendmail OR mail server

While the above are standard features with most web hosts, please  be sure your server has the ability to host TurboReferer BEFORE ordering:

Click here to download checkdbi.cgi script (it's zipped so you will need WinZip to uncompress it), upload it to your cgi-bin in ASCII format, chmod it 755 and run it through your browser. Hopefully, you'll get a message that DBI is found in your server. If not, please contact with your host and tell them to intall it for you.

Unzip the file & Upload the turboreferer folder in your /cgi-bin

The zipped file contains 3 folders:

  • cgi-bin

  • www

  • 4affiliates

Open your FTP client and connect to your server.

Open the cgi-bin folder and upload the turboreferer directory in your cgi-bin in ASCII format.

chmod instructions

chmod 755 ALL .cgi files

Open the turboreferer directory in your cgi-bin.

Select all .cgi files, right click your mouse and select chmod: 

  • admin.cgi

  • index.cgi

  • installation.cgi

  • popup.cgi

Tick these checkboxes in next screen:

chmod 777 .txt files

Select these .txt files:

  • admin_config.txt

  • admin.txt 

  • config.txt

  • config_template.txt

Right click your mouse and again select chmod, and tick these checkboxes in next screen (777):

Open the templates sub-directory inside the turboreferer directory in your cgi-bin.

chmod 777 (as described above) these files too:

  • admin_footer_mail.html

  • admin_notification_for_winner.html

  • invite_mail.html

  • message4buyer.html

  • register_mail.html 

  • rules.html

  • winner.html

Upload the testing pages, cookies.js and the image in root 

Open the www folder. It includes 3 sub-folders and 3 separate files:

  • normal_mode

  • ezine_mode

  • tell_a_friend

    • cookies.js

    • trwinanim.gif

Open the folder that corresponds to the mode you'll use TurboReferer for and upload the contents of the folder in your root directory (where your homepage resides) in ASCII format.

Also upload the cookies.js in ASCII format and trwinanim.gif in BINARY format.

For example for testing TurboReferer in normal mode upload:

  • testindex.html (ASCII)

  • testorder.html (ASCII)

  • cookies.js (ASCII)

  • trwinanim.gif (BINARY)

Run installation.cgi

Type http://yourserver.com/cgi-bin/turboreferer/installation.cgi in your browser

(where yourserver.com is your domain name)

Follow all 4 steps

  • First step: MySQL configuration

  • Second step: Email configuration

  • Third step: your information  

  • Last step: username & password

All steps are quite explanatory.

Remember to delete the installation.cgi after you're done.

Login to your administration panel

Use the username and password you chose and login.
The URL to your administration panel is:

http://yourserver.com/cgi-bin/turboreferer/admin.cgi in your browser

(where yourserver.com is your domain name)

Your options are:

  • Change username and password 

  • Email your Referrers 

  • Configure all messages 

  • Define the prizes for your Referrers 

  • View/Inactivate your Referrers 

  • Configure the template page your Referrers will use 

  • HelpDesk 

All options are quite explanatory.

Create a directory in your server for your affiliates

Create the directory where the pages will be created for your affiliates/referrers. 
This must be exactly as stated during the installation (Step 3: The DIRECTORY in your server where all the Referrers' web pages will be created.)

chmod this directory 777

Test TurboReferer

Go to the  testindex.html you have uploaded in your server.
Normally the URL would be like:

http://yourserver.com/testindex.html

(where yourserver.com is your domain name)
